What is TPAK?
TPAK is a specified non-profit corporation based in Japan which facilitates the empowerment of the socially vulnerable, including women and children of ethnic minorities across Asia.
What does it mean to be a “specified” non-profit corporation?
Specified non-profits are non-profits whose operations have been certified or authenticated by a prefectural government.
Where are you based?
We are based in Kanagawa, Japan.
Where do you conduct your empowerment activities?
We currently have projects active across villages in Thailand, Myanmar and India. However, we also support the empowerment of youths in Japan by providing them with internships to become future leaders in international cooperation.
Who do you support through your activities?
We were originally established as a non-profit which provides support for children of ethnic minorities across Asia. We have since expanded our activities to include the promotion of women’s rights in rural India.
Why ethnic minorities?
Many ethnic minority populations are often the target of discriminatory practices and policies and do not receive adequate governmental support due to the fact that they are not considered citizens of the countries they reside in. They are the one subset of society that we cannot expect local governments to support anytime soon. Thus, this issue is one which can solely be addressed through international cooperation on a grassroots level.
How do you help those who are in need?
The way we operate, as well as the projects we implement vary from region to region –even sometimes from village to village. Every area is different, and requires a customized empowerment project in order to truly contribute to the betterment of living standards in the area.
Where do your funds come from?
We fund-raise primarily within Japan. Typically, our donors are citizens who recognize the importance of our mission. Every little donation is extremely valuable to us, and truly helps to facilitate our efforts to empower children across Asia.
How can I get involved?
You can donate to our various causes through our website, or become a volunteer. Depending on the time of year, we have some internship programs open to English-speaking students.
